Balmain-inspired skirt

Balmain A/W 2011
After seeing this Balmain aw 2011 skirt on the runway, and then on one of my favourite DIY blogs here, I had to have a go at making my own.

I used:
  • A thrifted skirt
  • Metres and metres of gold, silver and red braid
  • Foil ribbon
  • Silver and gold studs
  • Scraps of material
  • A needle and thread
  • Fabric glue

First of all I hemmed the skirt to a little above the knee (a shorter skirt works best with this level of bling). Then I started tacking on the various types of braid, working with horizontal and diagonal lines.

When I had attached all the braid and stuck on the foil ribbon there where still patches of the skirt showing through. I filled up the gaps with scraps of material which I coiled or folded and then tacked onto the skirt.

Finally I attached a number of silver and gold studs for a rock’n’roll touch and extra grip (the studs have little spikes which are pushed through the fabric and fastened).

The skirt looks great teamed with an oversized red jumper and a simple pair of heels! Saved myself over $15.000 here!

Embroidered Jeans

Isabel Marant A/W 2011
One of my favourite designers of the moment is Isabel Marant. I love the easy-going feel of her outfits, the silhouettes which combine slim-fit jeans and oversized sweaters and blazers. After stumbling upon a pair of knee-high suede and leather boots in the sale this summer I’ve been completely infatuated.

Unfortunately with designer style comes a designer price and I’m just not in the position to pay that kind of money. Luckily I’m handy with a needle and thread and after seeing these white embroidered jeans I was sure I could have a go at the Navaho print myself.

It’s my first embroidery project so bear with me, I hope to post some pictures of my progress soon as!

Introducing...me!

Hi there readers!
First of all allow me to introduce myself and say a quick word about this blog. My name is Cassandra, and I’m a twenty-something fashion and design editor. I’m British-born, Amsterdam-based and live together with my pug puppy named Scribbles.
Thanks to my job I get to visit amazing places, meet inspiring people and see some great design and fashion. I share some of what I see with the world through my work, but would love to share the behind-the-scenes, the who-what-where and the what-I-really-think!
On this blog you will find fashion, design and some DIY’s (my long-term sideline).
But enough about what you can expect from me, lets get on with the show!
xoxo
