Modefabriek highlights

Because I couldn't possibly cram all the pictures I made at the Modefabriek into two posts, here is a third one for you visual enjoyment!

Modefabriek Day 2

Day two at the Modefabriek and it was time for some fresh young design talent. Notably, there were quite a few Dutch names among the designers to present at the Next/Cutting Edge show this time around such as Jonathan Cristopher, Anne de Grijf and Zem. Designer for Tomorrow-winner Alexandra Kiesel presented a bright, colourful collection full of interesting tailoring but my favourites were Anna Jazewitsch's Russian workwear-inspired, minimalist outfits for day, and Eleanor Amoroso's unique fringed dresses for parties!

I always love interviewing the designers after the show, seeing what their inspiration was and what their future plans are. It's a great way of understanding better what certain designs are all about, something you may not see at a glance. Designers can be so passionate about their work, my favourite part of my work really!
Now if only someone could only tell the models to pose as they come on and off the catwalk, that would be a great help to my photos!

Modefabriek Day 1

I always really enjoy visiting the Modefabriek, not only because it was the first fashion event I ever attended a few years ago, nor because it's the only place I get to sit front row, but because of the great energy at this huge fashion fair.
Every six months, the fair is organized at the Amsterdam Rai and plays host to hundreds of fashion labels such as Ten Feet, Vero Moda, Modstrom and Goosecraft. The main focus of the event is at buyers (thanks to the various halls featuring stands in different segments) but the press isn't left out thanks to lectures and fashion shows.
On Sunday miss L. and I attended the talk by fashion-guru David Shah - who talked about exciting innovations in the world of fashion - before checking in on the MAFB (Music and Fashion Battle) finale.
Four young (mostly self-taught) fashion designers from four regions of Amsterdam, battled it out on the catwalk to become overall winner and go home with some career-changing prizes.

La Femme Chic, Deveney, Nawal and Uzuri Couture were the finalists and my vote went to Uzuri Couture thanks to her modern interpretation of African print fabrics and overall great styling.
My absolute favourite outfit wasn't even part of the Battle but was by a third year student of the ROC, who combined an assymetric printed skirt with a simple open-back top - or perhaps it was a dress.

Salon/

My weekend was dominated by openings at Salon/, ZWART/WIT at the Dutch Photography Museum and the Modefabriek. On Saturday brought my friend L. along to Salon/ and the photo museum as she is a fashion-lover just like me, yet can appreciate some fine art when she sees it!

Salon/ was due to open in Amsterdam at 11:00 with a short introduction by Victoria Koblenko followed by a presentation of Dutch Fashion Award-winner Conny Groenewegen's latest collection.  We were, however, not informed of a walking-tour through the city to visit the many location of Salon/. Due to a prior engagement in Rotterdam (and painfully high Louboutin's on L.'s part), we decided to skip the tour (to be followed at a later date of course) and mosey over to Rotterdam.
