New Look for summer

I am a sucker for a great British brand and often find myself perusing the online racks of Topshop, River Island and, of course New Look. When asked to participate in a competition to choose you favourite look for summer, who was I to say no? I have always been a great fan of the brand's shoe lounge and for this great competition have chosen some of my favourite items to brighten up a summer's day.

Clockwise from left: Denim gilet, lace dress, studded bag, woven sandals, studded boots, fringe bag, heart-shaped sunnies

For me, this summer is all about cute white lace dresses, grunged up a little with cool accessories such as fringe, denim, studs and leather. For a day out in the park I would grab the fringed bag and woven sandals (comfy!), or opt for the gilet, studded boots and bag and heart-shaped sunnies for an on-trend festival look. I am head-over-heels with this fringe bag and if I win, it will definitely be the first thing in my shopping basket, fingers crossed!

Re-denim

Last Friday saw the finale/catwalk show of the Re-denim competition in which third year fashion students from the Willem de Kooning Academy Rotterdam (WDKA) and second year textile students from Saxion Enschede battled it out to be the best sustainable denim brand.

Winners were the Rezipp group who used innovative closures, had a great business plan and managed to bag the most Facebook likes just before the end of the competition.

The setting of the show was Jazz club Bird in Rotterdam, situated in a great creative hub which also housed a few vintage shops (Doortje vintage), some cafes and a great comic-book store.

The show also had first year WDKA students show their personality in white T-shirts and second year students presented a collection themed 'Isolated Hero'. Admittedly some of the designs were better than other but I definitely saw some jeans I would love to wear, or see on male models, yeah I said it.

I also loved how all the denim used in the show came from 'waste' materials and was recyclable itself. There is no way you could tell! Denim was used to adorn the judges chairs and catwalk, coolest thing of all was that we got to take a pair of rejected G-Star Raw jeans home! I managed to find a pair of cut-offs in my size :)

Please excuse the photography, I still have to master catwalks!
